Loved This

First time trying this product and at time of purchase, there were no reviews. I decided to take a chance. I have been using Madison Reed for years but have found the current color I use doesn’t cover gray very well (though it says gray coverage) and it fades so quickly. I really liked this kit, But first Coffee. I wasn’t sure of the color but I find box dyes come out darker So I went a what I thought would be a little lighter ( I have dark brown hair). The color was rich and made my hair shiny. It didn’t feel dry at all. The attached ‘after’ pic is washed/ air dried hair with no product. The formula is thick. It seems bigger then other at home bottles, but it just was enough for my shoulder length hair. I possibly used more then necessary as it was my first time. I left it on for 45 min and the color covered my gray and pretty much matched my hair color. I was fearful it might be a little too light and would show up light on my white hair but it was good. Came out very even. You can see in the pic how well it covered. I would def repurchase. The conditioner was moisturizing. I didn’t even use the eraser, I just put alcohol along my hairline after application. I will update if it fades out quickly. Side note, I did just my roots to mid section and applied to ends in the last 10 minutes.

Meh

I received the Ulta catalog and automatically fell in love with the IGK hair color sunset lover. My hair is light brown with darker roots. I received the product and after reading reviews I was nervous my hair was going to turn orange. At first applying the product my scalp burned a little. The product smelled like Madison reed. After 35 minutes I washed it out and put the conditioner which smelled like living proof (not a fan) then I blow dried my hair which felt thick and frizzy. The end color was not horrible. But I don’t think hair dressers should be worried about losing business. I will not repurchase. Not because of the color results but because the way it made my hair feel afterwards. The color is similar to Firenze brown Madison reed. I will stick with Madison reed.

I bought Warm up—which is a beautiful dark brown with a hint of red—came out so good. My hair feels so soft and healthy, which usually doesn’t happen with other dyes I’ve tried. I will definitely be buying this brand in the future.

Highly recommend

This is by far the best hair dye I have tried so far. I bought the shade French Rose and colored my ends. It was easy to use and the color looks very good. I highly recommend it.

I have lighten blonde hair and bought French rose. First off, there is not much product to use, I was shaking out any I could get to try to cover my medium length hair. Second, it’s a barely there color and that’s after keeping it on for an extra 20 minutes. Maybe I needed a second or third bottle for better results, but not for this price. The color that does show is a nice shade, true to what’s on the box.

Great kit, color not accurate

I really appreciated how organized the kit was, including using the box as a workstation. However the applicator was difficult to squeeze (I got color everywhere trying to shake it out since it’s so thick). I haven’t colored my hair since before Covid (feb 2020) and chose the color 1-800-espresso which is just a few shades darker than my natural brown. It came out SO red, almost purple on my virgin regrowth. This is supposed to be a “golden ash brown” which is super disappointing. I know box color is a risk, but for the price point the color should be more accurate for virgin hair.

Great product

Recently purchased and used this product. It is a drier formula than I anticipated, I was worried it wouldn’t spread far enough, but it did barely. (I have shoulder length hair.) Only thing missing was a cap.

Don’t recommend at all

Bought two colors-latte and french rose. Tried covering over light blonde and tried the pink on bottom half. Did not stick at all. Few strands at most. Top half tried the color latte and did not come out that color. Overpriced and bad quality:(

Don’t waste your money!

Thiis was the worst hair dye I have ever used. I bought the Hot Chestnut and ended up with a red looking color instead of the warm brown it was advertised. And 5 washes in its all looking like it’s washing off. So upset I spent a ridiculous amount for this terrible product. I have a few greys and those did not get covered either.

Absolutely spectacular!

My mom and I each purchased one, and we did our hair together, in the same color. We originally purchased because unlike other brands, these are cruelty free and vegan. We have purchased IGK in the past, but this is the best product we’ve used from any company regarding hair! Both of us have shining and beautiful, thick and luxurious hair now. It leaves the hair stronger and so, so shiny. The color is beautiful and somehow multidimensional. For those having issues with the cap, you remove the top. If you still have issues, cut it across (we didn’t have issues or need to do this, but we are not new to haircare or using/operating things in general). Have already repurchased, and intend to as long as they make it! Thank you so much for carrying it, Ulta!

Great color! Amazing!

This hair color was amazing! I have used pretty much every brand in a box, and this was by far the best I’ve used. I will make this my new regular!

Color matched well

I always apply to my temples first as the hair there always losses color the quickest. Even with keeping on longer for resistant gray they still did not color. The box has the directions to color on it, no separate directions. There is a QR code to scan to watch a video. This was root job only for me so did not follow directions or watch video so maybe that would have made a difference. Been 2 weeks now and where the color did take, it is still holding. Liquid was thick so no dripping.

Disappointing

The French Rose (light rosy blonde) color turned out to just be a regular blonde with no hint of rosiness whatsoever. And it seems I can’t get a refund for the item, because due to the fact that it’s a color kit, I can’t return it. Extremely disappointed in both this product and Ulta.

Nice and Easy Is Nicer and Easier !

Overpriced and underwhelming. L’Oréal or Garnier is just as good. Hyping the IGK name and some unusual colors is no reason to over pay for this.

very satisfied

After doing a full bleach for a bright red, I have been terrified of doing a permanent color again. After being an Arctic fox addict for about a year I gave this a shot in the Blue black. Application was easy, hair feels great and the color STAYS. I do not my regret my decision in the least.

doesn’t cover anything

I was excited as the color looked so beautiful in the box. However I left it on for the recommended 45 minutes for stubborn grays, but they didn’t get covered at all. I don’t have a significant amount of grays at all by the way, I’m just starting to get some grays. disappointed I was hoping I would love it.

AMAZING

I will only be buying this hair dye from here on out. It is amazing! I was nervous about running out, but the bottle lasted for my long fine hair. My only complaint would be it was hard to get out of the bottle. However everything else was amazing. My hair has never been so soft or shiny even after I use products that make it shine. This was just on another level. I love that there was no smell or burning of the eyes. The gel to put around your hairline was awesome, as was the erase liquid. 10/10 just love it! I also want a full tube of the conditioner that you use last it was amazing.

Disappointed

I’m leaving two stars as I can never find my color, blue black. I was extremely upset that as described my kit did not include the gloves or the treatment. At this point I’m thinking this was tampered with. Beware

I bought Astro Babe hoping for a light toned purple/lavender. it’s a mix between pink and orange. I followed all instructions and had pre-lightened hair. very disappointed

Best At-Home Hair Kit Yet!!

5

FitJenD03 from Texas

I love IGK and was excited to try this kit. I was in-between shades Dirty Blonde and Natural Blonde, and went with Dirty Blonde. It turned out beautiful. Covered grays really well and left hair feeling hydrated and healthy. I did use my own bowl & brush for application simply because I prefer that to bottle application. The products they include in the kit to prevent stains and treat hair post-dye are great! I may try the darker shade next but this one is beautiful and looks natural; perhaps a bit warmer than expected but adding a toner in between coloring will likely reduce the warmer tones as needed. Highly recommend!!

Just Like The Salon

5

abbeyhouse21 from Cincinnati, OH

I’m a full time student teacher so I didn’t want to spend a ton at the salon to get my hair colored. I’m usually pretty wary of at home color, but when I saw this I figured it was my best option! I wanted to cover up some old balayage and get back to my roots, so I chose 5GM. My color turned out perfectly! My hair also feels so silky and smooth. If you’re on the fence, I highly recommend!

Better then Expected

4

Luna from Chicago

I like this better than Madison Reed, which I have used for over a year. The packaging is better and the amount of product is enough for my long hair. They don’t give you a shampoo, and the treat step needs to be about 4x as much as they give you because it does not cover all my hair. So far, that is the only downfall, and I just used my own products to finish. I did notice an odor, but I am used to dye odors, so no biggie. But for anyone very sensitive, there is an odor. I am not sure on longevity and may have to write another review if it doesn’t go the distance there.

Supreme

5

BeachChic83 from Erlanger, KY

This hair color is supreme! I was impressed by the packaging… it came with professional gloves, protection from skin staining and stain remover. The conditioner was amazing. My hair actually felt better after coloring. I always color at home due to bad salon experiences (no matter what color I request at the salon, it comes out orange). I ordered the back to brown and when I saw the box it looked black to me but it came out a beautiful dark brown color. It covered my gray roots (I don’t have a lot…yet). I did need 2 boxes because my hair is about to the middle of my back and even though it’s more expensive I don’t think I will be using other brands in the future. I loved that the product didn’t smell like heavy chemicals and is vegan. I will definitely be a long time customer.

Confused

1

KS from Texas

I bought this color kit based off of the reviews and was completely disappointed. I don’t know if there was something wrong with the color and activator in my kit but absolutely no color was deposited on my hair. It should have been darker than my natural color, and there was no change at all. Towards the end of applying the color, the formula began to look like it was curdling or the mixture was separating. Perhaps I just got a bad kit, but I will not be purchasing this again. I will agree with the other person that talked about the clogging issue with the applicator bottle. I too had the same problem.

I’ve tried EVERY at-home hair color out there

5

Chelsea from Carlsbad, CA

I’m not kidding, I have literally tried every at-home hair color brand out there – both cheap and pricey ones. This one is the best so far. The color pays off SO well and lasts. The kit also comes with barrier gel + eraser to help with skin staining too, which is so helpful since coloring at home can be a little messy. This will definitely be my go-to color kit from now on.
